Black Belt to Higher Ranking Black Belt Testing Requirements


 

FIRST DAN TO SECOND DAN

 

Minimum time requirement of 2 to 2-1/2 years at the level of first dan.

Pre-Tests: 3 pretests with a minimum of 6 months in between each.

 

First Pre-Test:

1. All basic movements (slow motion kicking)

2. Forms - Koryo 2 & Kum Kang

3. Self Defense - 5 hand to hand, 5 knife & 3 kicking

4. Free Sparring

 

Second Pre-Test:

1. Breaking Technique - 5 stations, minimum 2 boards each

A. One break must be hand technique

B. One break must be a kicking technique, not more than one of the same.

C. Two stations must be either a jumping or flying kick.

2. Free Sparring

 

Third Pre-Test:

1. One step sparring techniques - First 25 color belt techniques, on both sides. (technique #'s 1 to 35)

2. Forms - Palgue 1 - 8, Ki Bon 1 - 8, Kum Gang & Koryo 2

3. Free Sparring

 

Second Dan Test

1. Slow motion kicking

2. One step sparring techniques - First 25 color belt techniques

3. Forms - Palgue 2, 4, 6, 8  Kibon 5, 6, 7, 8  Koryo 2  Kum Gang

4. Self Defense - 5 hand to hand, 5 knife & 3 kicking

5. Free Sparring against two and three opponents with takedowns allowed.

6. Breaking Technique - 5 stations, minimum 2 boards each

A. One break must be hand technique

B. One break must be a kicking technique, not more than one of the same.

C. Two stations must be either a jumping or flying kick.

7. Written test

SECOND DAN TO THIRD DAN

 

Minimum time requirement of 3 to 3-1/2 years at the level of second dan.

Pre-Tests: 4 pretests with a minimum of 6 months in between each.

 

First Pre-Test:

1. Forms - Tae Baek, Koryo 2, Koryo 1 & Kum Kang

2. Free sparring

 

Second Pre-Test:

1. Self Defense - Using what you have been taught, design your own techniques for defense against hand, knife, stick and gun ( 3 each).

2. Bo basic movements.

3. Free Sparring.

 

Third Pre-Test

1. Breaking Techniques - 3 boards at 2 stations and 2 boards at 3 stations minimum.  Must include 1 hand technique and a jump or flying technique.

2. Free Sparring.

 

Fourth Pre-Test

1. Sparring ( take down defense allowed)

A. against 2 opponents

B. against 3 opponents

2. Written Report

A. Explain the Ji Do kwan symbol.

B. Explain the purpose of practicing poom se.

C. Explain the purpose of breaking.

3. Forms - Tae Bak, Kum Kang & Koryo 2 ( slow & regular speed)

 

Third Dan Test

1. Slow kicking techniques

2. Forms - Tae Bak, Kum Kang & Koryo 2 ( slow & regular speed), Palgue 5-8

3. Self Defense - Using what you have been taught, design your own techniques for defense against hand, knife, stick and gun ( 3 each).

4. Bo Technique: basic movements.

5. Sparring against two and three opponents with takedowns allowed.

6. Breaking Techniques - 3 boards at 2 stations and 2 boards at 3 stations and one freestyle technique

7. Written Report.

8. Resume'.


 

THIRD DAN TO FOURTH DAN

 

Minimum time requirement of 4 years at the level of third dan.

Pre-Tests: 5 pretests with a minimum of 6 months in between each.

 

First Pre-Test

1. Forms - Pyong Won, Nopae, Tae Bak, Kum Kang, Koryo 2 & 1, Palgue 1-8.

2. Free Sparring

 

Second Pre-Test

1. Forms - Kibon 1 - 8 (slow speed)

2. Self Defense - Using what you have been taught, design your own techniques.  (3 each of hand to hand, kicking, stick & gun)

3. Free Sparring.

 

Third Pre-Test

1. Forms - Pyong Won & Nopae (slow and regular speed)

2. Breaking Techniques:

A. Must include speed break by hand, fist, palm heel or elbow technique and one jump or flying technique. 

B. Three stations: Three boards or concrete at each station.

3. Free Sparring.

 

Fourth Pre-Test

1. Forms - Pyong Won, Nopae, Tae Bak, Koryo 2

2. Bo, combination techniques.

3. Self Defense - Using what you have been taught, design your own techniques.  (3 each of hand to hand, kicking, stick & gun)

4. Heavy Breaking (wood or concrete)

5. Written Report.

6. Free Sparring.

 

Fifth Pre-Test

1. All Black Belt Forms (slow and regular speed).

2. Palgue 1 - 8.

3. Kibon 1-8.

4. One-Steps - Using what you have been taught, design your own 20 one-step techniques. (kicking & hand combinations)

5. Freestyle breaking technique.

6. Combination self defense.

 

Fourth Dan Test

1. Forms - Pyong Won & Nopae (slow & regular), Palgue 5, 7 & 8, Kibon 3, 7 & 8.

2. One-Steps - Your 10 best one-steps, created for fifth pretest.

3. Self Defense against hand, kicking & weapons (freestyle)

4. Bo, combination techniques.

5. Sparring against two and three opponents, takedowns allowed.

6. Heavy Breaking: wood and concrete (freestyle).

7. Written Report

8. Resume'.

 


FOURTH DAN TO FIFTH DAN

 

Minimum time requirement of 5 years at the level of fourth dan.

 

Fourth Dan Test

1. Forms – Sip Jin, Pyong Won & Nopae (slow & regular), One Palgue Form.

2. One-Steps - Your 10 best one-steps.

3. Self Defense against hand, kicking & weapons (freestyle)

4. Bo, combination techniques.

5. Sparring against two and three opponents, takedowns allowed.

6. Heavy Breaking: wood and concrete (freestyle).

7. Written Report

8. Resume'.
